The past years psychologist came up with this one of the greatest discoveries. The eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. It is also known as the EMDR for short.

During an EMDR the expert will move his fingers back and forth in front of you. He will ask you to follow the motion of his hands. There are many practitioners use EMDR therapy for PTSD.

Post traumatic stress disorder may occur after a traumatic event, it is one of the severe psychiatric disorders the many people may have. It may happen to you after experiences that may affect you terribly. Experiences like military combat, car accidents, rape or physical assaults. A PTSD patient may have sudden flashbacks and nightmares. There are also time that they experience phobias, anxiety or depression.

This was discovered by a psychologist whose name is Francine Shapiro in the year nineteen eighty seven. She was suffering a stressful and negative memories. While walking into the woods one day, she noticed that negative emotions were lessened as her eyes were moving from side to side. She made some research and investigated about the effect on it to her. She named the technique, the eye movement desensitization. And later on changing its name to EMDR, reprocessing for R.

This technique combined many elements from the other existing psychotherapies, cognitive behavioral, experimental and interpersonal, for instance. Traumatic events will really not be easy for one to manage, but there are several people that you can turn to assist you. On the first phase of the your treatment you will be carefully assessed, including your experiences. Discussion of taking away all of the negative feeling will follow. Hey will set a goal for you.

The therapist will ensure that his or her client will be in a stable phase prior talking about the traumatic experience, that will be in the second phase. The client may be given some relaxation techniques if he or she will not yet be stable talking about it.

The third to sixth phase, beliefs, emotions, images and body sensations will be identified and discussed related to the distressing event. After it has been identified them, he or she will focus on the finger that will move back and forth. This procedure will be repeated until the distressing feeling will be gone while thing about the formerly bad event. He or she will then be instructed to think positive that they will agree before.

During the seventh phase, you will be instructed to write anything. Anything that you want in connection to the traumatic event you had. An evaluation will then follow as you reach the last treatment session.

The EMDR is no wonder a great aid to many, and not to mention the safest way. This has no negative adverse effect to a patient. Many people in the medical world like to use this to their clients. It is also been used in many other psychological problems, such as panic attacks, eating disorders, anxiety and addictions. When you think that you are suffering from this disorder, do not hesitate to seek help from your psychologist. It would be better to have an early treatment, than nothing.
