Alcohol or drug addiction is a problem that surprisingly a lot of people would actually suffer from. Even if they are not good for the health, most people would take these substances in huge amounts because it would actually make them feel good. If one would look at all the personal stories and testimonials regarding addiction out there, he will definitely know that this is a problem that cannot easily be solved.

Now everyone knows that the story of each patient is different from one another however there are some elements that they would have in common. The one common denominator of all these people is that they are not satisfied with the way things are going about which is why they resort to vices to enjoy. It gives them a sense of security because it can temporarily help them forget their problems.

The storyteller would often first state why he chose the path of vices and how he felt during that time. Now there could be a number of causes or reasons as to why he made this choice but the usual would be depression or a trauma. Now if one would take a look at all the stories, he will notice that one thing all patients have in common is that they all do not have very high self esteem and take these substances as a way of escaping life.

Of course if he would take these vices for the long term he will then notice some changes in his behavior. He becomes more irritable and starts to alienate himself from the people who are close to him. Of course because of this, the people around him will start noticing this change and will also try to help him overcome this.

Of course the abuse on his body will negatively affect his health after some time. While in the process, there would usually be a lot of chronic pain since the substances have already damaged the internal organs as well as some of the brain functions. This would lead not only to medical problems but to even some psychological problems as well.

From there they would usually try to get help in trying to stop their abuse. The very first thing to do in order to stop everything is to change from the outside to the inside. In other words, one has to first make sure that he stops his substance abuse before he tackles with his life issues and his own personal issues.

Now the next part of the story would then deal with the experience of the storyteller during his rehab. Of course the first part of the rehab would be the medical portion. The second one would then deal with the cleansing of the mind and psychological issues with the help of a psychologist.

So as one can see, all the stories of people who have addictions have these elements in common. The great part about storytelling is that since all of them have some things in common, they all can relate to each other. Because they are all able to relate to each other, then at least they will have the feeling of not being alone and not having anyone understand them.
