Asana enthusiasts will be quick to list the many benefits that it offers. There is no pressure during classes because no form of competition between students is ever allowed. Students progress at their own pace and when they feel ready. Another great benefit is the fact that it can be practiced by almost everyone, including children and people with physical disabilities. It is safe and injuries are unheard of.



The medical benefits of Asana have been the subject of a large number of formal studies. It has been found that there is no doubt at all that those suffering from chronic pain, specifically back pain and asthma can greatly benefit from taking up this discipline. Depression and anxiety sufferers have also reported significant improvements in their mental well being.



Taking up Asana is easy. No special equipment or clothing is required. Classes are offered in most towns and cities. For those that cannot join a class for one reason or another there are numerous books and videos that offer advice to beginners. The internet abounds with sites that offer excellent advice and video material clearly demonstrating different stances and exercises.



There is no reason why the popularity of yoga will not keep increasing. It is safe, enjoyable and the entire family can participate. The health benefits that can be gained are beyond dispute. Many people are attracted to the fact that it is a holistic philosophy that addresses both the physical and mental domains.
