Hip pain is extremely serious since it can impair the ability to walk. The individual suffering is unable to participate in activities he or she once enjoyed, such as gardening for example. This hurting can be significantly severe and may interrupt sleep. There are methods used by a prominent Knox County Chiropractor that will alleviate the hurt which has a negative effect on an individuals quality of life.

This weight-bearing ball and socket joint makes movement of the leg possible in all directions. Dancing, gymnastics and other sports exert pressure on this joint over and over. This is one possible cause of pain severe enough to be disabling.

The hip joint is controlled by a group of muscles that surround and support it. The larger ones include some that may sound familiar, such as the hamstring and gluteus maximus. Less familiar small muscles, the gluteus medius and piriformis, work to stabilize the hip.

When you keep your first appointment with the chiropractor, he or she will perform several tests such as range of motion and strength measurements. Your ability to walk is evaluated and an x-ray is usually taken. After a hands-on examination of the hip joint, your condition can be evaluated.

Prior to a full assessment no plan can be made for the most appropriate care plan. The chiropractor will look for a subluxation of the hip, also called a misalignment. Imbalance and muscular bunching will be looked at to evaluate the full extent of the damage. Following the results of this exam a plan for your care is offered.

Massage and strength training are used, along with stretching exercises to reduce any bunching of the muscles. Relaxing the tense muscles helps in returning the hip joint to its correct alignment. Specifically tailored exercises to effectively alleviate the pain will be professionally created. Advice will be given as to the correct placement of your feet when you walk and run. Your chiropractor will schedule appointments to follow up on the progress you make.
