Different events in life and milestones can be celebrated in different ways. Decorations are often a way to signify such events and a flower wreath is usually one such item of decoration. It can be seen almost everywhere from simple home decor to religious times of year to seasonal festivals. It is also commonly seen at funerals.

In festivals associated with nature, particularly during spring, these wreaths can be used as headpieces. One such festival is May Day, which is celebrated in different communities around the world. In Europe, the maypole is also an important part the festival for various reason. There is even a sport involving a garland covered in flowers, which is placed at the top of the pole and young boys from the community must race on another to reach the pole and climb it in order to win the floral crown.

At religious times of year, this kind of piece is used as decoration. Many people will hang a large one on their front door as a symbol and a way to welcome any guest into their home. Wreaths can be used for absolutely anything. You can even have one at Easter time, which doesn't have to be floral. It could be made of plastic eggs for a fun way of celebrating the season.

However to signify spring, flora of the season is best. Traditional spring time flowers include tulips, daffodils and also daisies. Towards the end of spring, flowers like pansies and violets appear. The beautiful, bright colours of all of these will make for a beautiful piece during this time.

The poinsettia is naturally associated with Christmas. Wreaths made out of this flower are very common and the beautiful rich hue of red adds a lot of warm to the setting. The piece can be entirely covered in poinsettias alone for a real impact, or they can be interspersed in greenery for a nice balance of green and red. Another good idea is to make an entirely green garland and then accent it with a cluster of poinsettias for elegance.

There are flowers that have a natural association with death. Consequently, these particular flowers will be seen most at funerals and often they will be in a wreath form. A flower like a carnation is very common, and white lilies are also something you might see. White flowers represent eternal life.

Some flowers are chosen during times of mourning because of their scent. This dates back to times when the odour of the corpse needed to be masked with some sort of perfume. Nowadays, it is not as important to disguise any scents because of developed methods of preservation of a dead body until it is buried or cremated.

You can buy such a piece at any shop selling flowers, or you can even order one on a floral website. If you're feeling brave and have a steady hand and patience, you could also try making one! You have the choice of using real flowers or fake ones, for a longer lasting item. You could also dry out flowers first and then use them in your work.
