Some people are more open and trusting. Other people are less expressive and it can take more time to trust others. This may relate to people who have been traumatized or to young children and teenagers.

The therapist is encouraging and motivating, which is what you need when you have just been diagnosed with something like severe depression. You will need to talk about things on a weekly basis. This will make all of the difference. You will benefit by reaching certain goals and this is something to set your sights towards.

When someone is sceptical, the therapist may set them tasks to do outside of the sessions. This will be like homework. It will help them achieve their goals. It will also help them to stay motivated and it will encourage them to stay with the therapy program. They will be encouraged when they find that they have improved since the beginning of therapy. Often, working with a significant other can also be effective. A person will really benefit from the support of their loved ones.

A therapist like this may also refer the patient to someone who is more specialized. A person who has a personality disorder will need medication which will minimization symptoms. This can make all of the difference in the world. However, it is still important to talk about how they are feeling from one week to the next. They will talk about how they can improve and what methods and techniques can be implemented.
