The normal character and habit of an individual may change under different circumstances. People may develop strange and hostile behaviors that are dangerous to them as well as those living around them. Such behaviors need to be controlled to assist the victims to live a normal life. Dialectical behavior therapy in NYC is employed to help such people. This kind of treatment was initially designed to treat people with suicidal thoughts. These are people suffering from borderline personality disorders.

However, further research proved that the treatment is effective for individuals who suffer other kinds of disorders which may have proven untreatable by other treatments. The examples of these disorders included; depression, post traumatic stress, addiction as well as eating disorders.

There are various components of this program. The first one is the skills training group. This group is focused on enhancing the capabilities of the clients through teaching them behavioral skills. It is operated like a class whereby its leader teaches the skills then assigns homework for the clients to practice using the skills in their daily life. The groups meet on a weekly basis for specified hours. It runs for a period of one year.

The individual therapy is the second component of treatment. The focus is usually to improve the motivation of the clients. They are taught to apply the skills to handle particular challenges and events in their lives. In a standard setup, this therapy should be offered once per week provided the victim is in the treatment class. It is designed to run concurrently with other sessions.

The next component is the phone coaching. Its aim is to provide the clients with a moment training to apply the learned skills to effectively go through hard situations in life. The victims call the individual therapists to receive training when they need help.

The final component is the therapist consultation team. It is intended to be a treatment for the therapists. Its aim is also to support the experts in their work with people who usually have severe and complex challenges which are difficult to treat. The consultation team assists the therapists in staying motivated and competent so that they may provide the best therapy possible. This group often meet weekly to share their concerns regarding the job.

There are different stages of treatments. Stage one is for the miserable clients. These are people whose actions are out of control. They engage in dangerous and self destructive activities. The primary goal for this stage to enable the clients to achieve a condition character control.

The second stage is for those living in desperation. The behaviors of these clients are under control but still, they continue to suffer, often as a result of past trauma and invalidation. The aim of this stage is to help the victim move from a state of desperation to one with plenty of emotional experience.

Individuals in the third stage have the challenge staying with others. The training which they undergo entails learning to define goals in life, finding peace and joy in their surrounding together with establishing a sense of self respect. In addition, the clients are trained to lead a normal life. This is a life of ordinary happiness and sadness.
