According to statistics, millions of people from all over the world lose their lives as a result of addiction. This should however not be the case since there are many treatment options and with just the right type of treatment, many lives will be saved. In connection to this the following are details on substance abuse treatment MI.

Most often than not, addicts are usually in denial and are not ready to accept that they have a problem. It is, therefore, up to their family and friends to call this to their attention. They should encourage them to seek immediate treatment as there are many specialists ready to help.

Of all the methods used to help addicts towards recovery, rehabilitation happens to be the one with the best results. It is, however, important to take note of the fact that there are very many rehab centers. Despite their differences, they all take the same steps towards recovery. These are detoxification stage, counseling and offering after care for the patients.

During the first stage, the patient is supposed to completely stop using drugs completely. This gives the body ample time to get rid of all toxins. It is the most challenging of all the three steps. There are times when it gets so bad that one ends up dying due to the adverse withdrawal symptoms. In this event, one is administered medication to help them deal with the immense pain.

In the event that the body has been relieved of these drugs, one now qualifies to enter the counseling session. This is where true treatment is offered and the whole addiction puzzle is solved. It is conducted by a qualified therapist who truly understands where their patient is coming from. In this stage, the main reason behind this addiction is identified and dealt with accordingly.

There are two types of counseling from which a person can choose from. They can either decide to engage in group or individual therapy. In the individual one, the therapist works on a one-on-one basis with their client. There are those who prefer this as it is a more confidential one and the therapist has all their attention on them.

Group therapy is usually made up of a single therapy attending to many addicts. Despite the fact that a lot of people are involved, it also has its own sets of advantages which are unique to it. To start with, the patients are exposed to an environment where they are able to meet others who are going through the same exact situation. This gives them hope of recovery as they are able to strengthen each other along the way.

Finally, once the patients are done with the above steps, they are then subjected to an aftercare program. This is usually put in place to ensure that patients are not prone to backfiring and going back to their old habit. It can be done through having a regular meeting with a behavioral therapist, taking drug tests at intervals or joining living sober clubs.
