In the Untied States most of these individuals are working in the clinical field with 152,000 people out of 170,200 being employed as such. 2,300 are working in industrial-organizational field and the rest (15,900) working in the remaining positions. A counseling psychological professional's average salary in 2012 was almost seventy thousand dollars and the salary for an organizational professional was almost eighty four thousand dollars.

People might require the services of a councilor for numerous different reasons. Normally they require them for therapeutic reasons. Youth behavioral problems or adjustment issues might also be a further reason for employing such personnel.

Psychiatrists differ from these personal even though their overall goal is the same - alleviating mental distress. They differ vastly in their viewpoints and training.
